Comparing the 6 Best Men’s Shave Clubs of 2022 – Who Has the Best Razor?

The world of online shaving clubs is changing fast. Once upon a time, there was really only one option in this space — Dollar Shave Club. Then, along came Harry’s. After that, shaving brands like Bevel, Gillette, The Art of Shaving and Public Goods got into the game. You’ve also got shaving subscription boxes like The Personal Barber and Man Crates, which send a grab-bag of shaving goodies to your door each month. With all these choices, choosing the best shave clubs for men has got a little more complicated.

But that’s not the only way that the world of online shave clubs has changed. In 2022, we say brands like Harry’s and Dollar Shave Club expand beyond shaving. Harry’s has launched a line of anti-dandruff products, bath and body products and a skincare line for men. Dollar Shave Club also had expanded its wares to offer grooming products for your whole body. The expansion has also brought these brands into the real world, and you can find Harry’s and DSC products on grocery store and drug store shelves right next to your favorite Gillette disposable razors.

Why Trust SPY.com When Choosing Shave Clubs for Men?

SPY.com is a discovery platform for the best men’s products in the world. We’re always looking for new products to try, but we also know that the newest products aren’t always the best products. Most guys have been using the same deodorant since hitting puberty, and so we only want to recommend products that we truly believe in. This year, we’ve tested countless men’s grooming products: beard oils, body wash, shampoos, conditioner, hair loss products and anti-aging treatments.

In 2021, we published an entire awards feature covering our favorite shaving and hair products of the year. Check out The 2021 Man to see our list of last year’s best men’s razors, beard trimmers, shaving creams, and everything else you need to maintain your facial hair (or to shave it off). As part of our reviews, we’ve tested and reviewed all of the major shaving clubs: Harry’s, Dollar Shave Club, Bevel, Public Goods, etc. So when we say these are the best shave clubs, you can believe us.

1. Harry’s

BEST SHAVE CLUB FOR MEN

Harry’s wasn’t the first company to start selling razors online, but they’re perhaps the ones that perfected it. Founded in 2013, the brand focused on overhauling the entire shaving experience, including designing a razor that’s easy, comfortable and intuitive to use. The cartridge has all the typical features you’re used to seeing (five blades, a flex hinge, lubricating strip and a precision trimmer) while costing less than a standard refill. We really love the handle, which has a textured grip and weighted core. It just feels great in your hand.

The starter set (which includes one blade, a handle, shaving gel and a blade cover) starts at only $8, with a variety of subscription options (including refills on not only blades but also shaving cream as well). Oh, and if you don’t like the order, it’s on the house. From start to finish, Harry’s is focused on making something as tedious as shaving fun.

Harry’s recently re-engineered their razor blades to be even better, and since then we’ve consistently rated the brands’ Truman Razor as the #1 men’s razor in the world, full stop. On top of that, Harry’s has an awesome line of award-winning anti-dandruff products, body wash, and skincare essentials, so you can order everything you need for your grooming routine from one destination.

The Bottom Line: With great prices, the best men’s razor in the world, and a whole suite of awesome grooming products, Harry’s is the clear winner among men’s shave clubs.

2. Dollar Shave Club

RUNNER UP

If you’re wondering which shave club has the best razor, we’ve got to give it up to Harry’s. However, the SPY team is unanimous about one thing — Dollar Shave Club makes the best shaving cream in the world. The brand’s signature razor is also an incredible feat of engineering, even if we don’t consider it the world’s best razor overall. More importantly, we love everything about Dollar Shave Club, the original men’s shaving club. In fact, if you have to choose between Harry’s and DSC, there’s no wrong decision.

DSC started by offering $1 razor blades but has now moved into offering a more comprehensive shaving routine that includes pre-shave face wash, shaving cream, shave butter and post-shave cream. The best part? Their introductory kit is $5 and comes with trial sizes of the various creams we just mentioned, as well as a razor and a set of four blades, making it a great option to give a shot before making a larger commitment. As with other clubs, you can adjust your subscription preferences on the fly as you see fit. Dollar Shave Club remains a great solution if you’re just looking to take the hassle out of shaving shopping.

The Bottom Line: Dollar Shave Club is the OG of shave clubs, and we’re still big fans of their entire product line. This shave club is affordable and easy to cancel, but we don’t think you’ll want to. Plus, their shaving gel really is the best we’ve ever tested.

3. Supply

BEST SHAVE CLUB FOR SINGLE BLADE LOVERS

While other shaving supply companies pile on blade after blade, Supply takes a more minimalist and simplistic approach. By offering one blade (in a style similar to a safety razor) you’re avoiding all that irritation that can sometimes occur when using multiple blades. The level of precision that comes with a single blade leaves your skin feeling bump and nick-free. If you’re concerned about not getting the closeness you want, there are three different adjustable settings (sensitive, comfortable and ultra-close) to ensure you get what you need for your face. Additionally, the full starter kit comes with a lathering brush, shaving cream, healing post-shave spray and eight blades (roughly a three-month supply).

If you’re looking for the cheapest possible morning shave, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for premium men’s grooming tools that will give you a great, clean shave, then Supply does it best.

The Bottom Line: If you want to avoid disposable razors, then Supply is the best shave club for you. Their metal one-blade razor has a cult following and can last you a lifetime.

4. Bevel

BEST FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

Bevel is a Black-owned company that makes shaving and grooming products with a cult following, like the famous Bevel hair and beard trimmer. They’re a premium grooming brand that makes phenomenal products for men with sensitive skin.

So for men who want the feeling of an old-school, wet shave, Bevel offers the shaving subscription service for you. The complete system includes a safety razor, a brush to apply the brand’s natural ingredient cream (it’s made from all kinds of oils and moisture to help protect your face), and plenty of that great aforementioned shave cream. With three different plans depending on your shaving frequency, there’s plenty of flexibility to ensure you’re getting what you need. Bevel also boasts that their system will actually help you see clearer, smoother skin in about month, so if you’re a person that constantly sees lots of skin irritation, this is a worthwhile switch to make. The starter set comes with 60 blades, a handle, and all the items needed for a perfectly smooth face (shave soap, shave brush, etc).

The Bottom Line: For a smooth, classic shaving experience that won’t irritate your skin, Bevel is a solid option with premium shaving products. While not a traditional shave club, you can subscribe to this brand and unlock major savings on their best products.

5. Gillette

FOR GILLETTE STANS

Gillette was a little late to the punch on the whole subscription service razor blade trend, but they are still worthy of our attention. With subscription services for most of Gillette’s most popular razor styles including the Sensor3, Mach3, Fusion5 and ProShield, you’re just a few clicks away from being able to get blades from a brand that continues to push and evolve the shaving experience. Gillette’s online shopping experience is also the most streamlined out of the five we’ve selected: You’ll just pick from one of the four razors previously mentioned, choose your frequency and then you’re right on the checkout page, for a quick and simple shopping process.

Overall, Gillette continues to provide comfort and ease for the shaving experience, and there’s definitely a lot of value in that. Each package, regardless of the model, comes with four cartridges, so you’ll be set for a while. Sign up for a recurring delivery and you can get your preferred blade refills sent to you every three months.

The Bottom Line: If you’re committed to your Gillette razors, then this is the shaving club for you. Otherwise, we’d recommend trying Harry’s or DSC, which offer superior razors at a better price.

6. The Personal Barber

BEST SHAVE CLUB WITH SAFETY RAZOR

Much like Bevel, The Personal Barber is an old-school style shave, but at a price point that’s considerably less. Included in their full kit is a double-edged safety razor to provide a soft and smooth close shave. Additionally, the subscription box comes complete with all the other accouterments needed for a full wet-style shave including a shave brush, shaving soap and extra blades. And don’t worry, even though they’re a U.K. outfit, they offer full shipping to the United States with no issue.

The Bottom Line: The Personal Barber is a great option if you want to discover new shaving and grooming products that you’d never otherwise experience.

Also Consider: Man Crates The Clean Shave Crate

BEST ONE-TIME PURCHASE

If you already know and love the best men’s subscription boxes, then you are probably familiar with Man Crates. This company has a tone of curated subscription boxes designed for all types of interests, and a nice close shave is one of them. The Clean Shave Crate comes inside a wooden box full of premium shaving and after-shave products.

The Bottom Line: While this isn’t technically a shaving club, it’s still a great option that we couldn’t resist including. If you’re looking for a great gifting option, then The Clean Shave Crate is a worthwhile gift idea for men.

Also Consider: Public Goods

ECO FRIENDLY PICK

Public Goods, formally known as Morgan’s, has become a popular brand among design-conscious millennials, and the company creates finely crafted home goods and personal care items like soaps, shampoo and razor blades. Unfortunately, Public Goods doesn’t offer a dedicated shaving subscription service as part of their offerings. So while it’s not a club, we do think it will be of interest to guys looking for the best shave clubs for men. Plus, they’ve got unbeatable prices on razor blades.

Blade refills start at $1 for a pack of four, making them the cheapest available out of all the options. With other face care options (shaving cream and moisturizer are present here too!) to add a larger subscription service or a la carte, there’s plenty of options to make sure you’re saving face in the best way possible. Sadly, Public doesn’t offer their blades and handles together, so you’ll have to go a la carte on these options, as the handle is $11 and the blades are $1 for a set of four.

In our testing, our product reviewers weren’t as impressed with the Public Goods razor system compared to Gillette, Harry’s or Dollar Shave Club, but $1 a blade is hard to argue with, and we would still recommend signing up if eco-friendly design is important to you.

The Bottom Line: Usually you have to choose between eco-friendly products or affordable products, but Public Goods offers both in one aesthetically pleasing, well-designed package.
