Competitive market? Wichita among top 10 cities where homes sell quickest, analysis says
If you’re having trouble keeping up with the housing market in Wichita, it may be because the city is one of the 50 places in the U.S. where homes are selling the fastest, according to one analysis.
According to Stacker, Wichita takes eighth place for the fastest selling market, ranking right below Grand Rapids, Mich., and right above Harrisburg, Pa.
Stacker created the ranking using data from real estate website Redfin, looking at more than 300 metro areas for days home listings spent on the market and number of sales in the month of April.
According to Redfin, the U.S. housing market has seen a decrease in units purchased, falling by 25.5% year-over-year. The median days spent on the market across the country is 36 days.
In contrast, Stacker reports homes on the market in Wichita stay listed for a median of seven days before selling. According to the report, 627 homes were sold in April with a median sale price of $205,000.
The latest data from Realtors of South Central Kansas, which includes Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Sedgwick and Sumner counties, reported a median of six days spent on the market in April, with a total of 716 closed listings. That’s down 27.2% year-over-year.
The median sale price that month was $198,050, the Realtors association reported, and the end of the month saw 1,056 active listings, up 66.8% year-over-year.
Redfin labels Wichita’s housing market as “very competitive,” reporting homes usually sell 1% above listing price, with the most competitive homes selling for about 5% above listing price.
