Complete press conference: Oakland police officer killed in line of duty

Around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2023, Oakland police officers responded to a burglary in progress at a cannabis dispensary near Jack London Square. During the response an Oakland Police Officer was ambushed and shot. At 8:44 a.m., the officer passed away with his family and Oakland Police Department officers by his side.
