Back in March , a property dubbed the "Mars House" sold for roughly $515, 460. This futuristic minimalist abode, designed by Toronto-based artist Krista Kim, features gorgeous views, glossy see-through furniture, and lots and lots of fiery orange tones. However, what really makes the home stand out is its location. No, it's not physically located on Mars, but it can only be found on a 3D file.

The Mars House is the first NFT (non-fungible token) digital home to exist (or rather to not exist?) in the world. The crypto art home was thoughtfully designed to create a zen and therapeutic atmosphere. Kim even tapped The Smashing Pumpkins's Jeff Schroeder to produce a special background track to further enhance the home's soothing aura.

Kim lated listed the home for sale on the art-selling platform SuperRare. It was only available for purchase with ETH, or Ethereum tokens, a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin. A few offers rolled in between 0.01 and 33 ETH. According to the New York Post, who spoke with the artist, she had initially priced the home at 30 ETH (roughly $60,ooo). Luckily, she held out: One user offered a number that greatly succeeded her expectations — 288 ETH, or $515, 712.

The designer took to Instagram to announce the exciting news. She explained that she would be putting the profit from the home into her Continuum Foundation, "which will support a world tour of healing sound and light art installations for mental health and healing."

Either way, buying a home this high-tech comes with strict guidelines. Krista Kim Studio Inc. retains ownership of the Mars House copyright; therefore, any digital or physical reproductions of the home are restricted. Also if the owner happens to resell the home, he/she must delete all Mars House files from his/her Metaverse (and receive official verification by Krista Kim Studio Inc.) before transferring files to the new owner. After 40 years have passed, this file transferring system will be placed under trusteeship by Krista Kim Studio Inc.

Yesterday, Kim announced that she would be collaborating with Spartial, a virtual reality platform, to give the public a chance to experience and tour the Mars House.
Starting on Friday, June 11, people will be able to view the digital home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. EST on Saturday. Each of these tours will be 45 minutes. There is also the option to rent the Mars House for a private event like a wedding or a family reunion.

“I’m thrilled to be able to let the public experience Mars House,” said Kim in a statement. “When I first conceptualized Mars House last year while in quarantine, I could only dream of what it could and would ultimately become–a space for all to come to escape the harsh realities of our current moment.”

Other events for this showcase include a live music session with awarding producer llmind on June 17. Then during July 9, 10, 16, and 17, musician Jefff Schroeder will be hosting healing sound meditation concerts where he will be performing in the home with a virtual guitar. Tickets for this event will cost $200. More details on how to obtain tickets for these events will be released shortly.
