A comprehensive list of Springfield area cancellations due to excessive heat warning

With a late-summer heat wave continuing in central Illinois through the end of the week, several outdoor events have either been cancelled or postponed as a result of the hot temperatures.

For instance, a farmer's market at the Illinois State Fairgrounds has been called off for the week, along with the postponement of several Week 1 high school football games.

Here's a look at the cancellations and postponements:

Many high schools postpone football games

Conference by conference, here's a look at the status of each game in the SJ-R footprint:

Central State Eight: Chatham Glenwood's game against Danville, scheduled for Friday, was postponed to Saturday at 7 p.m. at Glenwood.

The opening game of the renovated Memorial Stadium pitting Lanphier against returning CS8 member Lincoln has been postponed to 7:30 p.m. Friday, with gates opening at 6:30.

Southeast's opener against Decatur (MacArthur) at Millikin University will start at 8 p.m. Friday.

Jacksonville's opener against Decatur (Eisenhower) in Decatur has been pushed back to 8 p.m. Friday.

Rochester's opener against Peoria High in Peoria will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Sacred Heart-Griffin's opener, and John Allison's first game as head coach, at Normal (Community) has also been moved to 7:30 p.m.

Springfield's opener against Normal (U-High) will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Apollo: Taylorville's opener in Olney against Richland County has been pushed back to 8 p.m. Friday.

Lincoln Prairie: Nokomis' opener in Arcola has been pushed back to 8 p.m. Friday.

Niantic (Sangamon Valley)'s opener against Oakland (Tri-County) has also been pushed back to an 8 p.m. start time.

Sangamo: Petersburg (PORTA) and Williamsville will kick off at 8 p.m. Friday in Williamsville, with gates opening at 7 p.m.

Riverton's opener in Stanford against Olympia will also kick off at 8 p.m. Friday.

Pleasant Plains' opener in Maroa against Maroa-Forsyth will kick off at 8 p.m. Friday. Gates will open at 7 p.m.

All other games--Athens hosting Pittsfield and New Berlin hosting Auburn--remain scheduled for their regular kick-off times.

South Central: Litchfield's opener against Carlinville has been pushed back to Saturday at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6.

Staunton hosting Greenville in their opener has also been pushed to Saturday at 7 p.m.

Hillsboro hosting Virden (North Mac) in their opener has been pushed back to 8 p.m. Friday.

Pana's opener against Vandalia will also have an 8 p.m. start time.

Farmers market called off at Illinois State Fairgrounds

The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced that the Illinois Product Farmers Market slated for Thursday was cancelled as a result of the hot temperatures.

Scheduled to be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, IDOA said that a need to protect their vendors, staff and customers led to the cancellation of this week's event.

Weather permitting, the farmer's market will return next week, Aug. 31.

Jacksonville schools

All Jacksonville district schools dismissed early Thursday because of the excessive heat.
