The Con Strikes Back: NerdinOut Con to return in October

Feb. 21—The Med City's only pop culture convention is coming back in 2021, and it has a new home.

Nerdin Out Con is the creation of Brad Vigesaa and Jake Scharpen who also own the NerdinOut comics and gaming stores in Rochester and Inver Grove Heights and The Battleground laser tag arena They are bringing the convention back after the pandemic plugged the plug on what would have been their third one.

They announced Friday that the next NerdinOut Con will be Oct. 22-24 at the Mayo Civic Center. The first two, in 2018 and 2019, were held at Graham Arena on the Olmsted County Fairgrounds.

"The difference will be that it will be at a newer, nicer location," said Vigesaa. "We're hoping having it at the Civic Center will draw in more people."

NerdinOut Con 2021 will be later in the year than the previous ones in an effort to make sure it can be done safely.

While details are still being worked out, they expect this con to offer the same mix of pop culture, comics, and gaming, plus some celebrities fans enjoyed at the first two events. However, the plan is to ramp up the experience.

"We're focusing more on quality rather than quantity with this one," said Vigesaa.

That means the vendors, attractions and stars will be fan favorites.

This year's NerdinOut Con will also include a new Friday night draw. The plan is to add a wrestling event as the kick-off to the pop culture extravaganza weekend.

More details about the events and tickets will be released in the coming months.
