It is Kentucky State Fair time, which means it is socially acceptable to sit down and eat a Krispy Kreme Donut Burger, deep-fried Oreos, pulled pork mac and cheese, and totchos. You can also enjoy live music, cotton candy, corn dogs, rabbits and goat exhibits, shop at vendors with a variety of merchandise, and more.
The fair will be held Aug. 18-28 at the Kentucky Exposition Center, 937 Phillips Lane. Watterson Expressway and the Fairgrounds.
Gates open at 7 a.m. daily. Exhibit Halls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 28), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tickets, if purchased online through Aug. 17, are $10 per person (parking included). If tickets are purchased at the gate Aug. 18-28, they are $10 per person with an additional $10 for parking. The State Fair is free for ages 5 and younger. Fairgoers ages 17 and younger entering after 6 p.m. must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 21 years of age or older. Proof of age is required. IDs will be verified at the gate.

WHAT: The prestigious saddlebred show is held annually in conjunction with the Kentucky State Fair and crowns world champion Saddlebreds, Hackney Ponies and Road Horses in different divisions. The show attracts spectators and competitors from across the world and includes over 2,000 horses competing for more than $1 million in awards. Horses compete in divisions including Three-Gaited, Five-Gaited, Fine Harness, Saddlebred Pleasure, Saddle Seat Equitation, Hackney/Harness Ponies, Roadster, In-Hand, and American Saddlebred. Each division includes several classes for amateurs, ladies, amateur ladies, and junior exhibitors, as well as younger horses and ponies.

Thrill Ville at the Kentucky State Fair
WHAT: Get your adrenaline pumping with these rides including roller coasters, Dino Train, carousel, giant slide, tilt a whirl, tea cups, Hurricane, Monster Truck, Orient Express and more.
WHEN: Aug. 18-28. Opens 3 p.m. Monday-Friday; 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Texas Roadhouse Free Concert Series at the Kentucky State Fair
The 2022 Kentucky State Fair is bringing its free concert series that offers a variety of genres, including country, hip hop, retro-pop, Christian, heavy metal, oldies and R&B. Something for everyone.
American Idol winner Noah Thompson, from Louisa, Kentucky will be performing on Aug. 24. He will be opening for fellow Kentuckians John Michael Montgomery and Walker Montgomery. Admission to the concert series is free with regular Kentucky State Fair admission.
The Texas Roadhouse Concert Series is located in Parking Lot L will be held Aug. 18-28, gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and concerts begin at 8 p.m. each day. On Aug. 28, gates open at 2:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 4 p.m.

Free entertainment at the Kentucky State Fair
WHAT: Free shows and entertainment at the Kentucky State Fair:
The BIG Tent: An outdoor family entertainment space located in Lot A adjacent to the South Wing. The BIG Tent is where you’ll find unique food, drinks and entertainment including The Dennis Lee Band, musical comedian and his band, hip hop and R&B sensation Kazual and various community acts that are sure to entertain the entire family (Lot A adjacent to the South Wing).
The 9/11 Never Forget mobile exhibit: This interactive, educational exhibit honors the heroes and victims of 9/11. Artifacts such as steel beams from the World Trade Center, documentary videos, and recordings of first responder transmissions will be displayed all 11 days of the fair. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath.
Miller's Border Collies: Trained dogs execute herding techniques on command in the Show Ring (West Wing).
Porkchop Revue: Comedy animal variety show featuring swine of all kinds performing stunts and antics. See them dance, sing and jump (West Lawn).
Robo Cars: Features a tractor and a pick-up truck that transform as they roam around the fair.
Jason D’Vaude - The Circus Man: Comedic juggling, fire, and balancing acts include precarious stunts, sharp objects, and a dash of danger – all with a smile and a laugh.
Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean: Fun and fast-paced high-wire show with two pirate crews racing to find the hidden treasure!
Kentucky Fire & Rescue: Meet Kentucky’s firefighters and learn about fire safety training and demonstrations from our hometown heroes.
Trivia Tractor: A fast-paced, interactive mobile game show that anyone can play.

Special discount days at the 2022 Kentucky State Fair
WHAT: The fair will have four special discount days:
Aug. 21: Military Sunday at the state fair. Active, retired military, veterans and their families receive free admission with military ID. There is a limit of four passes and parking is not included. Thrill Ville wristbands will be discounted 20% off and available on-site only at the Kissel Welcome Center. Must show Military ID and have all family members with them at time of purchase. Limit six wristbands per valid military personnel ID.
Aug. 22: $5 Monday at the Kentucky State Fair. Admission is $5 per person and includes parking. Fairgoers can watch the evening performances of the World's Championship Horse Show. Free horse show tickets must be picked up at the Kentucky Exposition Center Box Office on the day of the show.
Aug. 23: Senior Day: Free admission for fairgoers ages 55 and older. Parking is not included.
Aug. 24: Sensory Friendly Morning (10 a.m. to noon). The Kentucky State Fair and Kissel Entertainment are partnering with FEAT of Louisville, Home of the Innocents and Kentucky Autism Training Center to distribute free admission and midway tickets to family and fairgoers with sensory processing differences (this event is full and all tickets have been distributed).

WHAT: Features more than an acre of agriculture exhibits in South Wing A highlighting Kentucky's farm and field heritage, including the future of farming and agribusiness through 4-H and FFA exhibits.
4-H members share their skills and compete for champion honors. Categories include geology, knitting and crocheting, forestry, electricity, foods, horticulture, woodworking, entomology, clothing, home environment, technology, country hams, consumer science management and photography.
Kentucky FFA exhibits the best of the best among youth in agriculture. Regional winners in production, agri-business and placement appear alongside entries of tobacco, hay, corn, floral arrangements, mechanics, and woodworking.
