Concerts coming: America to perform at Canton Palace, The Guess Who at KSU Tusc

CANTON − A trio of concerts have been announced in classic rock and country music in the Canton area.

America, known for "Horse With No Name," "Ventura Highway" and others 1970s hits, will be in concert on March 16 at Canton Palace Theatre in downtown Canton.

Other songs achieving Billboard success for the Grammy-winning band were "Sister Golden Hair," "Don't Cross the River" and "Lonely People."

The Stark County show will be part of the band's 50th anniversary tour.

Other announcements include The Guess Who and their Jan. 26 show at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas in New Philadelphia.

Formed in Canada in the 1960s, the rock band is best known for the songs, "American Woman," "Laughing," "These Eyes" and "No Time."

Tickets for America, $50, $78, $88 and $140, are available online at https://cantonpalacetheatre.org/ and by calling the box office at (330)454-8172. VIP packages are also available for the 7:30 p.m. concert.

And The Shootouts, a Northeast Ohio band with ties to Nashville, will be performing tracks from their new album on March 18 at the Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Canton.

Tickets for The Guess Who start at $53 for the 7:30 p.m. concert and are available online at https://www.kent.edu/tuscpac or by calling the box office at 330-308-6400 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Performing Arts Center is at 330 University Drive NE on the KSU Tuscarawas campus.

The Guess Who charted 14 singles

The Guess Who features founding member and original drummer/songwriter Garry Peterson.

Peterson is the only current or former member of The Guess Who to perform on every album and to have participated in every tour during the band's career, according to the band's website.

Fifteen of the band's albums have charted on the Billboard 200 and 14 singles have charted on Billboard’s top 40. Three albums also were certified gold.

A member of The Guess Who since 2008, lead singer Derek Sharp has worked with Jeff Healey, Alannah Myles and other musical artists.

Canton area singer-songwriter Cody J. Martin will open for The Shootouts at the 7:30 p.m. show.

Mixing vintage country, honkytonk and Western swing, The Shootouts are releasing a new album, "Stampede" on Feb. 24 in conjunction with a concert at the Grand Ole Opre in Nashville.

"Stampede" was produced by Ray Benson, an influential figure in the American roots music and Western swing genres.

The songs "Better Things to Do" (featuring Marty Stuart) and "Run for Cover" have been released to streaming platforms.

The Shootouts features Ryan Humbert of North Canton on vocals; he's a former solo artist in Northeast Ohio in the singer-songwriter and indie rock genre.

The band's 2021 release, "Bullseye" reached the top 10 of the Americana Music Association Radio Albums Chart.
