Concord School District Administrators Agree To New 3-Year Contract

CONCORD, NH — Principals and administrators in the Concord School District have ended months of negotiations with the SAU 8 board of education with a new contract.

Steve Rothenberg, an assistant principal at Concord High School, on behalf of the Concord Administrators Association, said the new 3-year contract was “a long stretch for all of us” but despite the challenges, they were “very pleased” with the agreement. The association represents 22 principals, assistant principals, and others who work in an administrative capacity.

“The multi-month negotiations process was professional and productive,” Rothenberg said. “We had our areas of difference. But both sides systematically and candidly exchanged perspectives to build a give and take, ‘solution space,’ around a series of short-term and long-term interests.”

The negotiations team, he said, could say, “without reservation,” they felt “respected throughout and we are confident that that feeling was mutual.” During the last few years, during very volatile times for the district, workplace stability was “a valued asset” for the employees, with Rothenberg calling the contract “good” and “a further step to solidify our COVID-era footings” — even though there is still “much work to do.”

School Superintendent Kathleen Murphy was also pleased with the agreement.

“The Concord School Board recognizes the level of commitment and dedication the school administrators have demonstrated during some very challenging times,” she said. “The new 3-year agreement ensures that the district will continue to employ highly professional and experienced leaders to ensure the success of our students.”

Tim Herbert, an assistant principal at CHS, Shawn White, the director of special education at the Rundlett Middle School, and Katie Saad, the principal of the Mill Brook Primary School, were also involved in the negotiations for the organization.

Rothenberg said the association appreciated the work of the SAU 8 leadership team including Murphy, Business Administrator Jack Dunn, Larry Prince, the former human resources director who recently retired, as well as the board for the willingness to work toward a settlement and contract agreement.

The contract, he said, would be signed very soon.
