Concord University to celebrate Founders’ Day

ATHENS, WV (WVNS) — Founders’ Day will be celebrated at Concord University on February 28, 2024.

A night of mystery comes to Concord University with the Moonlit Masquerade

At 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, members of the community are welcome to join Concord University students, faculty, and staff in the Anderson Family Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center to celebrate 152 years of Concord University. Guests will also be able to enjoy refreshments after the presentation.

Concord University was founded in 1872 as a state Normal School for teachers. Since its founding, the University expanded the courses that were offered to teach liberal arts enthusiasts, medical professionals, business leaders, and social servants.

Presidential Excellence awards will be handed out by President Kendra Boggess to recognize students, staff, auxiliary staff, and faculty who have shown dedication to the University and the community.

Organist Daniel Spurgeon to be featured as part of Concord University’s Artist Lecture Series

Brandon Hicks, native of Princeton, West Virginia, will be the keynote speaker during the 2024 Founders’ Day celebration. Brandon graduated from Concord University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Tourism Management in 2017. He also got his West Virginia Real Estate Salesperson license while at Concord, and now holds licensures in Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

Hicks does not only deal with real estate, as he also founded and manages Hicks & Co. Travel, a luxury travel agency, that includes Adventure Awaits Travel, Roam Port Travel brands, and Crown to Castle Travel. Hicks is passionate about wanting the area to be successful, and has been involved with marketing and helping new citizens move here.
