Concordia Lutheran troop produces 3 Eagle Scouts

Jun. 30—Three members of Boy Scout Troop 213 at Concordia Lutheran Church were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.

Lee Hunter Doolittle, Thomas Chicka and Matthew Janicki all earned the highest rank the Boy Scouts of America offer.

Doolittle, 18, lives in East End and is the son of Dan and Melissa Doolittle. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in June 2020, earning 38 merit badges.

For his final project, he organized a food drive with the Salvation Army, which was held in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service's 27th annual Stamp Out Hunger Day, the nation's largest single-day food drive.

Doolittle was honored at his Eagle Scout Ceremony on May 24. He is a 2021 graduate of Superior High School and will attend Lake Superior College to pursue an associate of applied science degree in commercial and residential wiring.

Thomas Chicka, 18, of Foxboro, is the son of Ron and Ellen Chicka and the brother of Jonathan Chicka, an Eagle Scout from Troop 213. He is a member of the Superior High School class of 2021 and received his Eagle Scout rank in March 2021. He earned 36 merit badges during his time in scouting.

For his service project, Thomas worked with the Superior Parks Department to paint more than 50 concrete pillars at Woodstock Bay Landing in Billings Park in 2019.

A member of Troop 213 for seven years, Chicka has served roles including senior patrol leader and troop guide. During his four years at Superior High School, he played viola in the concert and chamber orchestras; served as the leader of the Gay-Straight Alliance; participated in Harvard Model United Nations; and performed in theater productions. In the fall, he plans to attend Northern Michigan University in Marquette to pursue a degree in nursing with a music minor.

Chicka's Eagle Scout Ceremony took place on June 7 at Pattison State Park.

Matthew Janicki, 17, lives in Central Park and is the son of Tom and Nancy Janicki. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in June 2020. During his time with Boy Scout Troop 213, he earned 38 merit badges.

For his Eagle Scout project, Janicki upgraded the Superior Senior Center's aging computers with Windows 10 software and more memory. He raised money at local businesses to obtain the supplies needed to complete the upgrades and to organize cyber security classes for the seniors.

Janicki was honored at his Eagle Scout Ceremony on May 24. He will be a senior at Superior High School the fall, and plans to attend college after graduation in 2022.
