Condoleezza Rice to speak on Ukraine, college athletics at Notre Dame Thursday

SOUTH BEND — Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be in South Bend this week to speak at the University of Notre Dame on a broad range of current events.

The talk, titled "A Conversation With: Condoleezza Rice," will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Mendoza College of Business and will be hosted by university President the Rev. John Jenkins.

The event will be free and open to the public, however room in the Jordan Auditorium will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The discussion will also be live-streamed.

According to a university release, Rice will discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 50th anniversary of women being admitted at Notre Dame and the landscape of college athletics.

Rice served as the 66th secretary of state under President George W. Bush from 2005-2009. She received her masters degree from Notre Dame in government and international studies and is currently the director of the Hoover Institute – a conservative think-tank located on the campus of Stanford University.

Rice, also a former Notre Dame trustee, has returned to campus a number of times to speak, most recently in 2019 when she appeared with fellow former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
