Condom-themed cafe in Thailand offers diners free condoms to promote safe sex

A Thai food service company is turning heads online for using condoms as decoration to raise awareness about family planning and promote safe sex.

Travel content creator and social media influencer Mohnish Doultani recently shared a video of what customers can expect to see inside Coffee & Condoms cafe in Bangkok. The cafe, presumably a part of the Cabbages & Condoms restaurant with whom it shares an address, is located at 10 Sukhumvit Soi 12, Sukhumvit Road, Klongtoey, Bangkok.

Almost everything inside the cafe is adorned with or made out of condoms, from the colorful dresses of the mannequins to decorative flowers, lamps and a chandelier. And since the whole point is to promote safe sex, Coffee & Condoms also hands out free contraceptives to everyone.

The café uses jokes, props and visuals to overcome ignorance in people to discuss issues such as intercourse, family planning, and Diseases,” Doultani wrote in his post.

Speaking to India Times, Mechai Viravaidya, chairman of Cabbages and Condoms, said he wants condoms to become accessible to everyone, just as cabbages are readily available in any market in Thailand.

In addition to promoting safe sex and raising awareness, the restaurant also aims to generate income to support “various development activities of the Population and Community Development Association (PDA),” according to its website.
