Confluence, Big Grove breweries win gold and silver medals in the 2022 World Beer Cup
Confluence Brewing Co. poured liquid gold at the 2022 World Beer Cup.
The Des Moines brewery won first place in the Bohemian-style pilsner category for its Over the Ivy Czech-style pilsner. The beer’s name is a tribute to the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series, according to a beerconnoisseur.com interview with co-founder and head brewer of Confluence John Martin.
The Colorado-based Brewers Association, a trade group that also hosts the Great American Beer Festival, has hosted the international competition every other year since 1996 but canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The competition will return in 2023 as the World Beer Cup moves to an annual competition.
