PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) announced Thursday morning she will not seek re-election as the representative of Washington’s 5th district.

Since 2004, Rep. McMorris Rodgers has served as the representative for the state’s 5th, which covers Eastern Washington and is centered on Spokane, the state’s second-largest city.

Rep. McMorris Rodgers currently serves as the Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and served as Chair of the House Republican Conference from 2012 to 2018. She was also the 200th woman ever elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It’s been the honor and privilege of my life to represent the people of Eastern Washington in Congress,” she said. “They inspire me every day. They are part of the strength and soul of America — the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever known.”

Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ seat will be up for re-election in November.
