Connecticut COVID-19 positivity rate increases to 15.56%

The number of new COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Connecticut increased this week, according to the state Department of Public Health, with the state’s positivity rate reaching 15.56%.

Out of 24,598 tests recorded as of Thursday, there were 3,827 positive cases in the past seven days, compared to 4,272 positive cases from the week ending Dec. 22 and 3,804 positive cases for the week ending Dec. 15, according to data.ct.gov. The test positivity rate was 11.43% as of Dec. 15 and 12.79% as of Dec. 22.

Hospitalizations increased from 515 on Dec, 15 to 714 Thursday, an increase of 199 patients in two weeks, according to a statement for the office of Gov. Ned Lamont.

Connecticut also saw 37 COVID-related deaths in the past week, for a total of 11,770 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health report that as of Dec. 7, 2022, a total of 308,226 cases of COVID-19 among fully vaccinated persons in Connecticut have been identified. Those cases account for 10.18% of the nearly 2.8 million people in the state who are fully vaccinated, according to the statement.

Per the state, as of Dec. 28, 3,047,694 people in Connecticut have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 2,782,457 have completed a series, and 729,356 have received the Bivalent booster.
