The Connecticut Sun announced two big changes to their leadership positions on Tuesday. The team named Darius Taylor their new general manager, while former UConn star and Sun forward Morgan Tuck will add assistant GM to her current responsibilities.

Taylor will take over after Curt Miller, who had served as the Sun’s head coach and general manager since 2016, left for the Los Angeles Sparks in October. The 44-year-old played college basketball at the University of Michigan and spent five years as an assistant for Dawn Staley at South Carolina, helping the Gamecocks reach the Final Four in 2015.

He had been with the Atlanta Dream since 2017, rising up the ranks after starting as an assistant coach and later moving on to become interim head coach and assistant general manager in 2021.

“I am very proud to be a part of the Connecticut Sun, which for years has been one of the model organizations on and off the court in the WNBA,” Taylor said in a press release. “I’m also extremely excited about helping to empower such a talented group of women and people. ... I look forward to collaborating with our players and staff to continue and build on the winning tradition of this great organization.”

Tuck, 28, who was forced to retire from the WNBA at age 26 due to injuries ahead of the 2021 season, had been working in the front office since May 2021 as Director of Franchise Development. She was part of a group that won four straight national championships from 2013-16 at UConn, and played four years with the Sun in the WNBA before winning a title with the Seattle Storm in her final season in 2020.

“Having the opportunity to make my mark on the basketball side of the Sun is an awesome opportunity that I’m grateful for,” Tuck said. “There’s a lot to learn, but I’m excited for this next step of my career.”

Taylor and Tuck will work alongside new head coach Stephanie White, who was announced last week.
