Connie's Chicken opening new locations in Oxford, West Point

Aug. 14—TUPELO — A staple in Tupelo for more than 40 years, Connie's Chicken is expanding its presence.

Over the coming weeks and months, the restaurant will open locations in West Point and Oxford.

The West Point location will be a familiar one — the home of the old KFC. As for Oxford, the spot is strategically located as well — it will be directly competing against Popeye's on Jackson Avenue. It will be a built from the ground up and take several months to build.

Batesville, Grenada, New Albany also are being eyed for locations in the near future.

The new locations will be open for dinner — something that Tupelo doesn't offer for now, but the plan is to get the original location for Connie's open for dinner as well.

Known for its chicken, biscuits and blueberry donuts, Connie's was founded in 1978 by Constantine Asters and his eldest son, Mike. His younger brother, Jay, joined the family business a few years later. Mike died in December 2020, and Jay sold the business to Nickle Smith and Tres Brasell of Oxford.
