Conor McGregor lashes out at Dustin Poirier ‘smearing my name,’ threatens to cancel trilogy

Conor McGregor has threatened to cancel his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 after his rival called him out on not following through with a promised charitable donation.

On Sunday, Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) went public with the information that McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) had not delivered on his commitment to donate $500,000 to The Good Fight Foundation. That irked the Irishman, who said he did not receive a detailed plan on what Poirier intended to do with the money, despite previously acknowledging that it would be used to build a gym in Louisiana to offer free training to area youth.

The situation only intensified from there. After McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar of Paradigm Sports, clashed with Poirier on Twitter early Monday morning, “The Notorious” snapped back by announcing he was no longer interested in the July 10 trilogy fight. He slightly flip-flopped on that threat, then openly accused Poirier of stealing from his own charity and said he would be “f*cked” when he’s eventually caught (via Twitter):

You’re ripped you inbred hillbilly. Why do you wink with your ears? You f*cking brain dead hillbilly. 500k with no plan in place. Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money. The fight is off btw. I’m going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid.

My team does their due diligence to make sure every donation meets the mark. My generosity is known. You will pay with your brain for this attempt at smearing my name. Shooting ass shelling ass b*tch. Little b*tch kicks from a shell. Good luck when you’re caught. You’re f*cked.

It remains to be seen whether the plug actually will be pulled on the UFC 264 headliner, but if not, there appears to be some serious bad blood going into the third encounter between the lightweight contenders, a stark contrast to the good will that had been built up between them leading up to the rematch won by Poirier.
