Conrad Weiser wins first-round match in PIAA Class 2A girls team tennis

Oct. 26—Conrad Weiser defeated Central Cambria 5-0 in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A girls tennis team tournament Tuesday at Hershey Racquet Club to advance to quarterfinals for the fifth straight year.

In other first-round matches involving Berks teams, Wyomissing lost to Hughesville 4-1 in Class 2A, while Berks champ Reading High lost to Unionville 5-0 in Class 3A.

District 3 runner-up Conrad Weiser (16-3) will face District 7 champ Knoch (18-0) Friday at 11 a.m. at Hershey Racquet Club. Knoch beat District 5 champ Bedford 5-0 Tuesday.

The Scouts won all five matches Tuesday in straight sets.

In singles, Berks champ Emma Perkins defeated Marley Ratchford 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Victoria Waltz beat Ella Persio 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2; and Isabel Wiggins defeated Rylee Baxter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Lydia Bashore and Charlotte Wenrich defeated Lydia Paskowski and Jessica Lian 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1; and Emily McGonigle and Reagan Wenrich beat Emma Dumm and Allie Morgan 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2.

At Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, the District 3 third-place Spartans (12-3) got their win against District 4 champ Hughesville (21-1) from Lily Chen at No. 3 singles. She beat Annaka Bruder 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Both doubles matches were decided in the third set. Destini Flowers and Breanna Bobak defeated Hadley Lynch and Lexi Aita 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1, while Georgia Randall and Maya Snyder beat Raissa Estime and Katie Kaufmann 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-0 at No. 2.

At Legacy Youth Tennis in Philadelphia, Reading High (16-4), which finished fourth in District 3 and was making its first appearance in the state tournament, lost all five matches in straight sets to District 1 champ Unionville (19-0).
