The Little Traverse Conservancy and Grand Traverse Conservancy are teaming up to bring free water trips to Northern Michigan.

The upcoming guided paddleboard trip on July 21 is part of a series of free outdoor events this summer with the conservancy groups teaming up to guide local paddleboarders and kayakers across St. Clair lake. These events are designed to get people outside and exercising more often with fun activities that also support the environment.

The St. Clair Lake-Six Mile Lake Natural Area is a 255-acre preserve, co-owned and co-managed by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and the Little Traverse Conservancy. The conservancies are responsible for protecting and managing this area.

The hour-long trip will be guided by Ty Ratliff, associate director of Little Traverse Conservancy.

Participants are encouraged to use any non-motorized water vehicle they are comfortable with. Participants will be required to bring their own vehicle, whether it is a paddleboard, kayak or something else.

"It's really cool because people can bring paddleboards, kayak, whatever paddle craft they want to choose because they're gonna bring their own," said Emily Hughes, an organizer of the event with the Little Traverse Conservancy. "It doesn't matter what kind of craft you bring as long as you are the motor."

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 at the DNR Boat Access Site of St. Clair Lake.

Registration for the event is free and can be found on the Little Traverse Conservancy website.
