DREW SILVA: This has been a disastrous season for the Angels. So much so that they opted to trade high-priced closer Raisel Iglesias to the Braves just before the August 2 deadline.

Tucker Davidson, part of the return from Atlanta in that deal, can maybe help carve out a brighter future for Anaheim. He got lit up in his Angels debut on August 7 at Seattle. But the 26-year-old lefty roared back with six solid innings on Sunday, August 14, against the visiting Twins. He gave up only two runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out three.

A big part of the reason for optimism and reason to look past his garish 6.75 season ERA is that Davidson has made some tangible adjustments. He altered his mechanics and even his pitch grips based on advice from Angels pitching coach Matt Wise. And it led to much more effective use of his slider and changeup in his latest outing.

He's driving more toward home plate, not falling off toward third base. And his spin rates have improved. If those adjustments take root, the former top prospect might just carry fantasy streaming appeal in the right matchups down the stretch. Keep him on a waiver wire watch list.
