Construction on I-41 expansion and new roundabouts are coming to Outagamie County in 2024

SEYMOUR - Winters in Outagamie County may require shoveling show and scraping ice off of windshields, but they at least put a pause on the road construction drivers see in the warmer months.

As soon as cold temperatures fade and snow melts this spring, orange cones will be back preparing to block people's regular routes to work.

To help avoid roadblocks, here's a look at major roads and bridges that will be under construction in Outagamie County next year.

Interstate 41 expansion project begins this spring

Potentially the biggest road construction project coming next year is the start of the Interstate 41 expansion between Appleton and De Pere.

Over the next few years, the 23-mile stretch will expand to three lanes in each direction and get some upgraded exits.

Construction will begin in spring impacting the following roads:

  • Construction will start on the Northland Avenue exit in summer to prepare for the new diverging diamond interchange. Traffic will be impacted, but the interchange won't be fully closed.

  • The Capitol Drive overpass in Grand Chute will close between spring and fall next year.

  • The Freedom Road exit in Little Chute will be closed between mid-summer and fall to reconstruct it into a diamond interchange with traffic signals.

  • The Rose Hill overpass in Little Chute will close from spring to fall.

Additionally, the Safety and Weight Enforcement Facility will be replaced during the project and is set to close in fall and is expected to reopen summer 2026.

Two roundabouts coming to Seymour

State 54 in Seymour is getting new roundabouts next year at the Main Street and Ivory Street intersections.

Additional work along the highway will change the four-lane road to a three-lane roadway that has a two-way left-turn lane.

Construction is scheduled for spring to fall next year. Both intersections will be closed during that time but the highway nearby will be open to traffic throughout most of construction.

Single-lane roundabout coming to Greenville

The intersection of School Road and Municipal Drive in Greenville will get a roundabout next year.

Additionally, a sidewalk on School Road east of the roundabout will be installed, and the roundabout will be equipped with pedestrian crossing accommodations and streetlights.

The start of construction hasn't been released yet, but the intersection is expected to be closed to traffic for the duration of construction.

Kankapot Creek bridge in Buchanan is getting replaced

The bridge over Kankapot Creek on Outagamie County KK in Buchanan is scheduled for a replacement next year.

Construction is slated for summer and should take three to four months to complete. The road will be closed to traffic for the duration of the bridge's replacement.
