New construction activity slim in January in Henderson area
HENDERSON, Ky. − New construction activity got off to a seasonally slow start in Henderson and Henderson County in January, with just a handful of commercial projects and no new housing starts.
January marked the fourth consecutive month in which the city codes office issued no permits for new single-family homes and the third straight month for no housing starts in the county.
Permits issued by the city codes office for new commercial construction included a $200,000 permit to Adams Construction for a new 2,100-square-foot building for East End Eddie’s Auto Sales at 1503 N. Green St. and a $175,000 permit to Lighthouse Storage of Henderson LLC for an 11,900-square-foot structure at 2429 U.S. 60-East.
The only commercial permit issued by the county codes office was a $23,000 permit to Crown Castle for an equipment upgrade to a cell tower on Kentucky 283.
But a pair of permits for commercial kitchen exhaust hoods, each valued at $30,000, were issued to Farmer & Frenchman Winery & Cafe and to MAKG Brothers for the Niagara Store.
The value of all new construction activity authorized last month totaled just $718,665, compared with more than $2.7 million in January 2023 that was dominated by major remodeling projects at the Walmart Supercenter and at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club at the former National Guard Armory at 735 N. Elm St.
