Lane closures, repair work will slow traffic on Sagamore Bridge through end of May

Structural repairs have begun on the Sagamore Bridge, and traffic will go down to one lane.

Travel over the bridge will be reduced from the current two lanes in each direction to a single lane each way.

Crews will be performing structural repairs to keep the bridge safe. Work was scheduled to start March 13 but was pushed back due to weather.

Lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day until the project is completed, and police details will be on site when work is being performed to assist with traffic.

Drivers are warned to be aware that travel delays will likely take place during morning and afternoon peak travel periods each day.

Traffic signs and message boards will be used to help inform drivers about lane restrictions and bridge work. The bridge sidewalk will also be closed during the phase of repair work adjacent to the sidewalk side of the bridge.

Work is scheduled to go into May, but USACE officials plan to have all bridge work and lane restrictions finished prior to the start of Memorial Day weekend.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
