Land clearing is completed and site preparation is ongoing off Peyton Parkway east of Florida 9B in northern St. Johns County for the estimated $225 million Flagler Health+ Durbin Park medical campus.

The site is cleared for construction to begin on the new Flagler Health+ Durbin Park medical campus that will include a new 77-bed hospital, an outpatient surgery center, a medical office building and a women's pavilion.

The women's pavilion will incorporate family medicine, specialty care, women’s services, urgent care, imaging, laboratory services and a medical spa.

"Flagler Health+ has made a commitment to deliver services that meet the unique needs of our communities, as Northeast Florida continues to grow," Gina Mangus, executive vice president of Advancement and Strategy for Flagler Health+, told the Times-Union in an email.

The estimated $225 million medical campus will span 42.5 acres just off Florida 9B at Peyton Parkway in northern St. Johns County. It's part of the Durbin Park planned community in the Saint Johns area of the county.

In addition, Flagler Health+ and UF Health recently announced a clinical partnership intended to bring educational components, subspecialty medicine and pediatric emergency care to the campus, said Mangus, who's also executive director of Flagler Health Care Foundation.

In development, Mangus said is "a state-of-the-art" Andrews Sports Medicine Institute that would include surgical services, orthopedic research and education, sports medicine clinics, a rehabilitation center, performance training, school-based programs and more, she said.

James Andrews, a widely respected physician and surgeon specializing in advanced orthopedic medicine, is known for leading sports medicine programs that are "associated with premier sports teams and athletes from around the world who consistently choose the Andrews name when seeking advanced orthopedic care," Mangus said.

As proposed, the Durbin Park sports medicine institute will be adjacent to the new Peyton Family YMCA also located on the Flagler Health+ Durbin Park campus. The Peyton Family YMCA will be about 50,000 square feet, which Mangus said is one of the organization's largest branches.

Mangus said plans call for an airnasium — a covered outdoor gym — indoor and outdoor aquatics, teen center and Kidz Zone, exercise studios and a wellness center with strength and cardio equipment.

All of those facilities combined "support the Flagler Health+ vision to advance the physical, social and economic health of the communities we serve," she said.

About 10 percent of the work has been completed. That includes necessary offsite roadways and the utility infrastructure required to support the campus," Mangus said.

"The site is cleared, filled and graded in preparation for construction and long lead material procurement is underway," she said.

Construction of the medical building and women's pavilion is expected to begin by the end of the month. Completion is projected for Spring 2023, Mangus said. Hospital construction is slated to begin in May. It is projected to open in Spring 2024.

The projected start and completion dates of the outpatient surgery center weren't immediately available.
