Construction to close southbound lane of Mill Street in Newton. Here are the detours

NEWTON - The southbound traffic lane on Mill Street will be closed beginning Monday for a joint town-county project to repave the road, install new sidewalks and improve the "streetscape."

The nearly $1.1 million project will see new sidewalks installed as the town's share of the project while the county will be responsible for milling and repaving the street between North Park Drive and the intersection with Water Street/Route 206. Funds for the project are also coming from a state small cities grant.

For those coming south on County Route 519, the detour begins at North Park Drive. Traffic can still use Plotts Road to access the Sussex County Community College campus. Northbound traffic on Mill Street from Water Street will remain open.

County Route 519 follows Mill Street from Water Street, northward into Hampton Township. The southern entrance to the college via Swartswood Road to College Hill Road will remain open.
