Construction continues at behind-schedule Hingham Harbor boat ramp
HINGHAM – Construction of the new Hingham Harbor boat ramp continues, weeks after officials say it was expected to open following a delay brought by supply chain and environmental challenges.
Originally scheduled to be finished by Memorial Day weekend, officials pushed the opening of the boat ramp, which offers access to Hingham Bay and beyond, to late June. Construction continued this week.

The new ramp will be about the same width as the previous ramp, but it will have a wooden pier and a floating wooden dock to help boaters launch their boats and return them to their trailers.
The Hingham ramp is one of almost 300 boat and canoe access sites, shore fishing areas and sport fishing piers maintained by the state Office of Fishing and Boating Access.
Construction has not been without its challenges. Earlier this year, an excavator got stuck in the mud in Hingham Harbor and had to be pulled out two days later.
Hingham officials said no one was injured when the excavator fell into the harbor, and emergency crews worked to contain oil and other liquids. Spill containment equipment was set up around the excavator.
