Road construction Tuesday and Wednesday along Pacific Coast Highway near Point Mugu State Park will slow traffic in the area.

The California Department of Transportation said PCH between Deer Creek Road and Sycamore Canyon Road will be closed to one lane in both directions daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Traffic will alternate in both directions while the work is being done, Caltrans said. The agency advised motorists to find alternate routes.

The work is part of a $51 million project to build two retaining walls and to restore eroded slopes along the ocean side of PCH. Severe surf has worked away at the slope, which in turn is affecting the roadway shoulder, Caltrans said.

In the meantime, concrete barriers called K-rails have been placed in the work area and have narrowed the overall roadway. Caltrans is advising bicyclists to avoid the area from Deer Creek Road to Sycamore Canyon Road while construction is being done.

The overall construction is slated for completion in spring 2023.

All work is subject to change due to weather or construction-related issues. Closures may start and end later. To get up-to-the minute information on traffic, visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
