Construction to resume at chain burger spot near Fayetteville's 'restaurant row'

In late November, a Chinese buffet restaurant adjacent to Fayetteville’s “Restaurant Row,” was torn down to make way for a burger chain that was originally slated to open in April.

Now, there is still no new restaurant.

On Monday, the site at the intersection of North McPherson Church and Sycamore Dairy roads, which once housed a Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurant, had a few pieces of concrete and a falling-down sign for Jaggers, Texas Roadhouse’s fast-casual concept.

Several area residents commented on a recent Fayetteville Foodies post that construction crews hadn’t been on the scene for weeks.

Delays have stemmed from permitting and supply chain issues, area franchisee Mike White said.

“You name it, we face every challenge there is to face,” he said.

The construction crew who has spent the last few months building the new Jaggers in Jacksonville will get to work in Fayetteville this week, he said.

Another Fayetteville restaurant closes? Popular late-night bite suddenly calls it quits

The Jacksonville restaurant opened July 19 and is the first in the state. It has a bigger kitchen and seats nearly twice as many guests as a typical Jaggers location, White said, and the Fayetteville restaurant will be similarly spacious.

The changes to the brand’s prototypical designs are to make it feel more like a fast-casual restaurant and less like a fast-food joint, he said.

Chicken, burgers and salads will be served in the 100-person dining room and the drive-thru when the restaurant opens in early January, White said.

Hiring for six management positions will begin next month and about 70 hourly employees will be hired closer to the opening date, he said. Visit eatjaggers.com for more information on jobs.

White said he’s just getting started in North Carolina. He said he’s not sure how many Jaggers he plans to open in the state, but given the success he’s seen in Jacksonville, he hopes for there to be “many.”
