We’ve had these moments happen to us, something breaks and you have to pay to get it fixed, hurting your wallet. Our Consumer Warrior Clark Howard suggests starting a general rainy day fund and not guilting yourself for not having enough when you first start off.

“Over time, every pay period or every month, put some money into a savings account that’s for the ‘oops’ that happen in life,” says Clark.

Clark adds that you give yourself some space with the rainy day fund to help build it up. “When it does pour, and your wallet would otherwise be in real trouble. You’re prepared because you built that rainy day savings account”
