Contestants ready to compete for Miss Ohio and teen titles

Twenty-two contestants will compete for the title of Miss Ohio next week, with the winner crowned June 18 at the historic Renaissance Theatre, making her eligible to compete at Miss America later this year.

Ten contestants are vying for the title of Miss Ohio's Outstanding Teen. The Outstanding Teen winner also will compete at the national level.

This year one Miss Ohio contestant and three Miss Ohio's Outstanding Teen contestants are from Richland and Crawford counties: Miss Buckeye State Victoria Adams is from Bucyrus. Area teen contestants are: Miss Maple City's Outstanding Teen Baylee Shoemaker of Bellville; Miss Shawnee's Outstanding Teen Kylie Gottman of Mansfield; and Miss Greater Cleveland's Outstanding Teen Cassandra Kurek of Bucyrus.

Miss South Central Ohio Mozie Van Raaij of South Charleston, Ohio. Education: The Ohio State University, psychology. Her talent is guitar. Social impact initiative: Be Kind. Breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness while spreading kindness.

Miss Buckeye State Victoria Adams of Bucyrus. Education: The Ohio State University, strategic communications major. Her talent is baton twirling. Social impact initiative: The Time is Now: Raising Awareness for Mental and Suicide Prevention.

Miss Akron Canton Madelanah McFarland of Poland, Ohio. Education: Kent State University psychology. Her talent is musical theater vocal. Social impact initiative: The Women's Justice Initiative.

Miss Tomato Festival Bailey Schwiebert of Napoleon. Education Apollo Career Center Apollo School of Dental Assisting. Her talent is singing. Social impact initiative: Living the #WensinkWay.

Miss Cuyahoga Valley Crimzen Christmas of Newcomerstown. Education: The University of Akron audiology. Her talent is dance. Social Impact Initiative: Life Goes on with a Disability.

Miss Ohio River Ivy Parker of Columbus Grove. Education: Rhode's State College associate's degree in nursing. Her talent is singing. Social impact initiative is Environmental Sustainability: Grow with Ivy.

Miss Great Cleveland Emily Legenza of Wauseon. Education: music education degree. Her talent is singing. Social impact initiative: Teaching Gratitude.

Miss Southwestern Ohio Bryn Hasenaur of Holland, Ohio. Education: associate's degree in applied science, her talent is singing. Social impact initiative: Pink is Powerful: Advocating for Breast Cancer Testing.

Miss North Coast Caitlin Seifert of Niles. Education: Kent State University - MBA International Business. Her talent is baton twirling. Social impact initiative: Turn a Key: Opening the Door to Volunteering."

Miss Maple City Elizabetta Nies of Cincinnati. Education: Davis College and the International University of Monaco, business marketing and communications. Her talent is piano. Social impact initiative: Living from the Inside Out: A Proven Global Method of Making Aspirations Attainable.

Miss Portmouth Baylee Martin of Portsmouth, Education: Wilmington College, psychology. Her talent is singing. Social impact initiative: You Will Be Found. Equipping individuals with the four tools necessary to administer aid in a mental health crisis.

Miss Spirit of Ohio Olivia Kentner of Wapakoneta. Education: University of Cincinnati - communications. Her talent is vocal and dance. Social impact initiative: Ready Set Graduate.

Miss Clayland Emma Rose Lewis of Erie, Pa. Education: Kent State University, graduate student; BA in broadcasting and mass communications. Her talent is singing. Social impact initiative: Safe and Sound: Sexual Assault Prevention.

Miss Ohio River's Outstanding Teen Kyla Wente of Wheelersburg, Ohio. Talent: Dance. Social Impact Initiative: Coping with Kyla. Teens coping with depression and anxiety with the pressure of school and social standards that teens are held to today.

(Loving Ourselves and Verifying We’re Enough) L.O.V.E. emphasizes an open discussion on topics that teens struggle with daily by focusing on body positivity and building self-confidence among youth.

Miss Portsmouth's Outstanding Teen Meggan Hitchens of Newark, Ohio. Talent: Dance. Social Impact Initiative: Fit for EveryBODY I want to encourage youth and teens to live an active lifestyle, participate in extra curricular activities and find enjoyment in exercising.
