A new docuseries in response to Netflix's "Making a Murderer" will premiere Sept. 8 on Daily Wire+.

The 10-episode series, "Convicting a Murderer," is hosted by conservative political commentator Candace Owens and was directed by Shawn Rech.

Both shows spotlight the murder of Teresa Halbach, a 25-year-old photographer from Green Bay. On Oct 31, 2005, Halbach went missing after going on assignment for Auto Trader magazine to Avery's Auto Salvage, a family business in Two Rivers. That November, 43-year-old Steven Avery was charged with murder, kidnapping, sexual assault and mutilating a corpse for Halbach's death.

A few months later, Avery's nephew, Brendan Dassey — who was 15 at the time of Halbach's death — was charged with being party to the murder, sexual assault and mutilating a corpse.

It wasn't the first time Avery was sentenced to prison — when he was 23, Avery was convicted of the 1985 sexual assault of a woman jogging along Lake Michigan and sentenced to 32 years in prison. He was exonerated in 2003, after serving 18 years of his sentence, when DNA evidence determined someone else committed the crime.

Avery argued that he was framed by law enforcement because he was the plaintiff in a $36 million civil lawsuit against Manitowoc County and former county officials for his false conviction.

Both Avery and Dassey remain imprisoned, serving life sentences.

The Calumet County case received international attention after "Making a Murderer" premiered in 2015. The series has two seasons, both 10 episodes long, detailing the investigation, trial, aftermath and postconviction proceedings.

"Convicting a Murderer" claims it will highlight evidence that "Making a Murderer" left out and include more perspectives from law enforcement, family members and "fans-turned-investigators," according to a news release from Daily Wire+.

The first three episodes of the series will premiere Sept. 8 on the streaming platform, while the remaining seven episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays. The first episode will be free on YouTube and Twitter, according to the news release.
