A Conway golf course is getting an upgrade and a bar and grill. Here are the details

Coastal Carolina’s home golf course is getting a new look.

The Hackler Course is building a new clubhouse that the university will begin work on potentially by May 2024.

The two-floored building will house CCU’s Wall College PGA Golf Management Program as well as other amenities. On The Green Magazine reported the new center will be called the CCU PGA Academic Learning Center.

Hackler Course Manager Chuck Johns could not be reached for comment when called August 3.

The facility will be two stories and will be near the course’s ninth hole. The first floor will have the course pro shop and bar and grill that can seat 70 people. The second floor will house the management program, On The Green Magazine reported.

Work on the clubhouse project could take 12-14 months, On The Green Magazine reported.

The Hackler Course will undergo changes as well. The ninth hole will be shortened to accommodate the new clubhouse and will be open for play possibly by October. The driving range will also be re-grassed and tee boxes restored too.

The project was first approved by the CCU board of trustees in 2021, WMBF News reported at the time.

Funding for the project was approved in 2022, according to a Sun News report. Aside form hosting the CCU team, Hackler has also been the site for a previous PGA event. In 2015, the course was the site of the PGA Junior Championship tournament.

The 72-par course is named after General James Hackler who served in World War II as a fighter pilot. Hackler sat on CCU’s Wall College of Business Administration as a member of the Board of Visitors, and the course was named after him following his death in 2007.

The Hackler Course offers lessons on its website and is located at 107 Citadel Drive in Conway.
