Conway police say homeowner shot by officer while search warrant being served; ASP investigating

CONWAY, Ark. – Agents with the Arkansas State Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed by a Conway Police Department officer Monday morning.

Department officials said CPD officers and deputies with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve a search warrant at a home in the 3700 block of Highway 64 West around 9:15 a.m.

Officers said the person who owned the home, later identified by state investigators as 78-year-old Allen Seibert, came to the door holding a gun, which led one of the officers at the scene to fire their weapon.

State investigators said Seibert was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Authorities said Seibert’s body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.

Authorities have also not said if anyone else was injured in this incident.

The Arkansas State Police were called in to lead the investigation into the shooting. ASP officials said agents will develop a case file on the shooting to be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine if the use of force in this incident was in line with Arkansas law.

Conway Police Department officials said the officer involved in this shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave per department policy. The identity of the officer involved in this case has not been released.
