Folks who have been walking or driving past the Crumbl Cookies storefront in Beechwood Shopping Center for months will be happy to know that the wait will soon be over.

The Utah-based dessert chain is expected to open its 195 Alps Rd. location at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 20. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 17.

Initially projected for a winter 2021 opening, Athens Crumbl Cookie franchise co-owner Lance Jeffreys told the Banner-Herald via email that final inspections were still pending at the Beechwood location as of Apr. 27, and that the ribbon-cutting event would be followed by a grand opening event later in the month.

Founded in 2017, Crumbl's unique concept is set up like an open bakery where the cookies are made to order for the customer, and the menu changes weekly. An example of menu options include Lemon Glaze, Mango Frozen Yogurt and Hazelnut Mudslide with Nutella in addition to menu staples Pink Velvet and Milk Chocolate Chip.

The Athens Crumbl Cookies replaces Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, which closed its Alps Rd. and Barnett Shoals Rd. locations in 2021. A Crumbl Cookies location in Dawsonville opened on Mar. 4.
