Sundae Social, U-pick at Evansville Countryside Orchard

Evansville Countryside Orchard and JB's Barnyard will be hosting a Sundae Social on Sunday, July 24, from 2-4 p.m. Get an ice cream sundae or other cool goodie from JB's Barnyard food trailer and pick peaches and apples in the orchard.

Evansville Farmers Market spotlights first responders, special needs children

The next monthly Evansville Farmers Market will happen Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.at Washington Square Mall. This one also is First Responders Appreciation Day and the nonprofit spotlight is on Camse Kits, locally-created kits that first responders use when on a call with special needs children. Look for produce vendors, bakers with ready-to-eat food, food trucks, arts and crafts and much more.

New restaurant revives Taco Tierra recipes

A FastBreak gas station and convenience store has opened off Indiana 66 near the Warrick-Vanderburgh county line. Inside you'll find Beck's Kitchen, which offers fried appetizers, Charley's fried chicken and potato wedges, pork tenderloin sandwiches, breakfast and more. Also inside is Taco Tienda, which serves dishes folks are missing from Taco Tierra on Green River Road. Sanchos (loaded burrito), crunchy-shell tacos, nachos and Torizza are all on the menu.

Parking lot transforms into beach at Homer's Barbecue

Homer's Barbecue will be hosting a beach party on Saturday, July 23, from 7-10 p.m. The parking lot will become a beach with games, live music, fine barbecue, drinks and more.

Special Owensboro wine dinner showcases food from famous movies

The Owensboro Convention Center will host a Cork and Cusine meal on Thursday, July 21, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme is Light, Camera, Action and each of the five courses is drawn from a famous film. Wine and spirt pairings are provided. Tickets are $75 per person or two for $130. Diners must be 21.

New Pizzeria by Pangea Kitchen opens downtown

Pangea Pizzeria will open officially on Tuesday, July 19, in the same building as 2nd Language in Downtown Evansville. The Pizzeria will occupy the portion of the building originally used as a patisserie. On the menu will be versions of Pangea Kitchen's Neapolitan pizzas tweaked to perform for carry-out. Specialty flavors include pistachio with sausage and hot honey, Cacio E Pepe with cheese and black pepper, Thai chicken curry, and classic Margherita. Pangea's house gelato, sorbetto and grande house cookies will also be available.

Pangea Kitchen hosting one-night Taste of Italy dinner

Pangea Kitchen will offer a special prixe fixe Taste of Italy dinner on Tuesday, July 26, beginning at 6 p.m. The five-course menu includes an antipasto platter, roasted tomato salad with buratta, house-made bucatini with vodka sauce, beef shanks with creamy polenta, poached peaches in Amaretto with vanilla gelato and more. River City Coffee offering coffee-brewing lessons

River City Coffee + Goods will host an evening Coffee Lesson on Friday, July 22 at 6 p.m. Learn to brew coffee with the aeropress and enjoy coffee and pastry pairings. Attendees will receive 20% off coffee equipment after the lesson.

Restaurants collect classroom donations for Evansville teachers

A Fill the Teacher Locker drive will be hosted by Leroy's Tavern, Amy's on Franklin, Lamasco Bar and Grill, Ghost Quesadilla and Haynie's Corner Wiffleball League from Friday, July 22 through Tuesday, Aug. 2. Supplies for classrooms, which teachers normally pay for out of pocket, will be collected at all participating locations. Most request items are composition books, pencils, permanent markers, construction paper, crayons, journals and craft supplies. See the full list here.

New Caribbean restaurant opens in Henderson, Ky.

Tikay Caribbean Taste restaurant is now open in Henderson. On the menu are fried pork Griot, Tasso herbed turkey legs, jerk chicken wings, conch fritters, fried plantains and more specialty dishes from Haiti, Jamaica and islands around the Caribbean.

Vanderburgh County Fair around the corner

The 101st Vanderburgh County Fair will take place Monday, July 25 through Saturday, July 30. Enjoy all the festival food you care to consume while checking out the animal barns, rides, demolition derby and more. Admission is $10 per person at the gate; children 9 and under free.
