Cool Springs Kroger converts to completely self-checkout store

Good news for shoppers that prefer scanning and bagging their own groceries.

The Cool Springs Kroger has made the switch. It's operating entirely via self-checkout.

The Cool Springs store was picked to undergo the change as customers were already utilizing self-checkout kiosks at a higher rate there vs. other stores in the division.

The location made the switch Friday. So far, customers are embracing the change, said Lauren Bell, corporate affairs manager for the Kroger Nashville division.

"The addition of the belted lanes helps to accommodate customers that have a larger quantity of items that aren’t ideal for the smaller self-checkout kiosks," Bell said.

Since the switch, job titles have changed, but no jobs have been eliminated.

What about shoppers that prefer the traditional grocery store checkout experience?

Staff will be on hand to help customers checkout at kiosks, Bell said.

The Nashville division has plans for an additional self-checkout exclusive location in Hillsboro Village, however a specific date has yet to be announced.
