Cool summer: Eynon's Tasty Freeze kicks off ice cream shop series

May 24—Any which way you scoop it, ice cream is one of the highlights of the summer season.

While the tasty treat can be enjoyed with family and friends all year round, there's nothing like ice cream to cool down during the warmer weather.

Over the next several weeks, Chef's Table will spotlight ice cream shops throughout the region where residents can fulfill their cravings for sundaes, soft-serve and much more.

First up is Tasty Freeze Ice Cream and Mini Golf on Route 6 in Eynon.

Chef's Table spoke with Corey Castellani about this family ice cream business that offers 24 flavors of soft-serve, plus another 24 flavors of hard ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Q: What is the history of Tasty Freeze Ice Cream?

A: In 1953, George Warholic built the original Tasty Freeze and owned and operated it until 1973. That year he sold it to Dominick Trichilo. The Trichilo family owned Tasty Freeze for many years and then sold it to the Gillott family who had it until 2009 when brothers Mark and Jeff Hemak bought it. Mark and Jeff are childhood friends of our family and we, Corey and Kelly Castellani and Mark and Jody Antonio, became the new owners in January 2023.

Q: On your menu what do you consider to be your signature dish?

A: Tasty Freeze offers a wide variety of ice cream treats including more than 24 flavors of Crowley Soft Serve Ice Cream, Dairy-Free Dole Whip and Slushies. However, new this season at Tasty Freeze, we are proudly serving 24 flavors of farm fresh ice cream straight from Manning's Dairy Farm in Dalton.

Q: How would you describe the atmosphere?

A: Tasty Freeze is a modern ice cream parlor with a fun atmosphere for all ages. When you walk in you will be welcomed by our warm and friendly staff. We have a large indoor dining area along with plenty of outdoor seating which overlooks our miniature golf course.

Q: Could you tell us more about the shop's miniature golf course?

A:Our 18-hole miniature golf course is undergoing some renovations and is set to re-open this summer after being closed due to the pandemic.

Q: Do you have any special events planned at the shop?

A: Along with the grand re-opening of our miniature golf course, we'll offer ice cream cakes and birthday party packages.

Q: What type of seating do you have?

A: With a large indoor dining room, we are unique to the area offering plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors.

Q: Where do you see the ice cream shop headed?

A: Tasty Freeze is a family-owned business with strong ties to our community. We love supporting and partnering with local sports organizations and groups. Our vision is to be a premier staple in our community where everyone can come and spend time with their family and friends. We hope to be one of the area's best family-friendly destinations for all ages to enjoy quality ice cream, miniature golf and have a great time.

A: Too many to pick from.
