Cooler, rainier weather expected to end the week for Portland region

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Scattered showers remain in the forecast for Thursday as another round of widespread rain builds for Friday.

Rain showers will be isolated on Thursday, but the greater Portland, Vancouver metro area will see a wet end to the week. More persistent morning rain showers are expected Friday as snow elevations decrease.

Cooler temperatures will slowly start to work their way back into western Oregon and Washington on Thursday. Afternoon highs will sit in the upper 40s to low 50s. These slightly cooler conditions will help pull mountain snow elevations down to nearly 2,000 ft. by Friday morning. Cooler temperatures and the return of moisture will be beneficial to Oregon’s ski resorts. Drier and mild conditions will make for perfect skiing weather this weekend.

The dry weekend comes to an end as Oregon and Washington prepare for another potential atmospheric river next week. Rain showers will start to increase on Mardi Gras, Tuesday. Valentine’s Day will remain soggy at times, but the atmospheric river will help push temperatures into the mid-50s by the middle of next week.
