Cooler temperatures arrive in time for Halloween; communities set trick or treat times

Oct. 30—Trick-or-treat activities will be observed across the region Tuesday, although the temperature outside will be significantly cooler.

Although temperatures were in the 70s this past weekend, they will freefall in time for Halloween.

A freeze watch has been issued for parts of the region, which means the growing season will end Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., temperatures will be well below freezing Tuesday night and Wednesday night with lows in the 20s expected.

A high of about 44 degrees is expected for Halloween with a low Tuesday night of 24 degrees. Daytime temperatures on Wednesday will only be in the 30s.

But the cooler temperatures won't impact trick-or-treat observances. Most communities in the region will be observing Halloween Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. including the city of Bluefield. According to City Manager Cecil Marson, those citizens who plan to observe trick-or-treat should turn their front porch lights on.

Also in the city, K-9 unit Thor will be hosting trick-or-treat Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bluefield Police Department.

Trick-or-treat hours also will be observed Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the city of Princeton.

Monster Mash also returns to downtown Princeton Tuesday with activities being observed from 6 to 10 p.m. Mercer Street will be closed from Bee Street to 7th Street for the annual trick-or-treat on Mercer Street from 6 to 8 p.m. that day. There will be a costume contest, hosted by local MC's Doc Atwell and E.J, with prizes for kids and adults, live music by local band Red Audio, and fire spinning with artists from Black Magic Circus and more.
