Coors Light Brewed Beer Using Ice Scraped from Stanley Cup Winner's Arena

On Wednesday night, Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Ross Colton slipped the puck past Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price to give the Bolts a 1-0 lead in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. That scoreline held until the final buzzer, and the Lightning became Stanley Cup Champions for the second straight season.

There were more than 18,000 fans losing their minds inside Tampa's Amalie Arena — with hundreds more outside — and when they finally wake up after last night's celebrations, they'll undoubtedly be pleased to know that they can keep that party going with a limited-edition beer from Coors Light.

According to ESPN, the small-batch brew is called Coors Light Champions Ice, and it was brewed using actual ice that was scraped out of the rink earlier in the Finals, right after the Bolts and Canadiens trudged off to their respective locker rooms.

"We thought it'd be awesome to celebrate with the people in Tampa by creating a special batch of Coors Light for them to enjoy, created from the ice where the Lightning put all of their blood, sweat and tears into winning the championship," Coors Light marketing director Chris Steele told the outlet.

Those rink-shavings were taken back to the Coors Light brewery in Golden, Colorado, and it will be "purified using reverse osmosis membrane ultra-filtration technology," according to a statement from Coors. (Steele put it in simpler terms: "We did an official de-ick-ifying," he said. "But the magic and the spirit of the Tampa Bay Lightning are still in it.")

The brewing process was accelerated to ensure that Champions Ice could be available in a few Tampa Bay bars as soon as possible; Steele told ESPN that a higher ABV (alcohol by volume) version of the beer was brewed, and then it was "blended down to 4.2%" by adding the melted Finals ice.

"As an official beer partner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, we're proud to celebrate the team's second-straight championship win by giving Bolts fans a literal taste of the action," Marcelo Pascoa, vice president of marketing for the Coors family of brands, said in a statement. "We're no strangers to the magic of the ice, both in the arena and outside it. And now, we've taken that ice and have brewed it into a refreshing beer."

Coors Light Champions Ice will be on tap in participating bars starting next week (Tampa Bay locals can check its availability on the Coors Light Champions Ice website) and a limited supply of 32 ounce collectible growlers will be produced as well. If you don't get your hands on a cold glass of even colder Champions Ice this summer, it looks like you'll have to hope for a Bolts three-peat — and a Coors Light re-release.
