Cop, parole agent shot through door during domestic violence call, Utah police say

A Utah police officer was shot and killed after responding Thursday to a domestic violence call, police say.

The officer was 15 months into his job, Ogden Police Chief Randy Watt told The Salt Lake Tribune. An agent with Adult Probation and Parole was also shot and injured, but he has since been released from the hospital, according to Deseret News.

They were responding to a domestic violence call from a woman who said her husband was threatening to kill her, Deseret News reported.

When officers arrived, the husband was “uncooperative” and shortly began shooting through the door of the house and struck the police officer, according to KSL.

“Our hearts are broken and we mourn with the Ogden Police Department for the loss of a fellow law enforcement officer,” Utah Department of Corrections Executive Director Mike Haddon said in a statement, according to KSL. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this fallen hero.”

The injured officers were dragged away from the scene as other officers returned fire into the home, KSL reported.

The Ogden-Metro SWAT responded as the situation escalated and were able to get children out of the house, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

The gunman was later found dead by the SWAT team, the Tribune reported.

“It is a sad day for our department, our city and the greater Ogden-Weber County community,” Watt told the Tribune.
