Copacabana beach hug on World Ocean Day

STORY: Organizers of ‘Aquele Abraco’ (‘That Hug’ in English) expected close to five thousand volunteers to attend which were distributed across 25 different strategic spots across Copacabana.

Volunteers also participated in cleaning brigades.

Event creator Felipe da Costa told Reuters the project is a way to thank the ocean and to raise awareness about how society is negatively impacting it.

The first edition of 'Aquele Abraco' in 2019 attracted over 15,000 people who recollected 111,000 pieces of trash.
