Copley, Highland win in volleyball, soccer; Hudson, Norton, Revere, STVM, WJ win on pitch

VOLLEYBALL

Copley 25-25-25, Cuyahoga Falls 14-6-14

Copley (7-1, 3-0) stayed atop the Suburban League American Conference on the strength of Shelby Emich (33 assists), Lydia Pavlovich (16 digs) and Katey Firestine (8 kills, 15 points) on Tuesday.

Falls picked up solid efforts from Kenzie Ornouski (10 digs) and Irelyn Buhaj (9 assists).

Highland 25-25-25, Kent Roosevelt 21-12-13

The Hornets stayed undefeated in SL American Conference play thanks to solid showings from Megan Scavuzzo (17 assists, 3 aces) and Alayna Tessena (11 kills, 13 digs).

Aurora 25-26-25, Tallmadge 17-24-22

The Greenmen (4-3, 2-1) stayed one game behind Highland and Copley in the SL American Conference thanks to solid play from Booke Gecina (16 kills), Mia Devine (19 blocks), Ollie Salgado (30 assists) and Emerson Spiesz (17 digs).

The Blue Devils were paced by Zoe Rensel (13 kills, 5 aces), Lexi Gray (27 assists) and Maya Dexter (25 digs).

Wadsworth 25-25-25, Nordonia 13-16-21

Aly Snyder totaled 14 assists, 15 service points and three aces to lead Wadsworth. The Grizzlies other leaders were Ellie Zuro (11 kills), Kenzie Brandenburg (15 digs), Mya Garcia (four blocks).

BOYS GOLF

Manchester 158, Orrville 178

Manchester moved its record to 12-0 this season under coach Shawn Zavodney at The Pines.

Brady Johnson shot a 2-over-par 38 to lead the Panthers. Manchester’s other scoring golfers were Eric Ouimet (38), Logan Carr (40) and Drew Mothersbaugh (42).

Nordonia 164, Tallmadge 172

Max Weber carded a 1-over-par 36 to lead the Knights to a win at Ellsworth Meadows.

Nordonia’s other scoring golfers were Ben Mallis (40), Jason Janosek (43) and Ryan Mallis (45).

GIRLS SOCCER

Norton 8, Coventry 0

Alliya Pickett registered a hat trick, but had a ton of help as Ella Easterling, Alivia Potter, Claire Bennett,  Zoe Long and Sofija Perovic all scored goals for the Panthers in MAC action.

Chippewa 9, Hillsdale 0

Abby Blaz scored three goals and Abby Henegar netted two goals to guide the Chipps (6-0-0). Chippewa’s other goal scorers were Kendal Shiarla, Annie Henegar, Elena Moyer and Clara Gasser.

BOYS SOCCER

Copley 5, Kent Roosevelt 3

Colin Link (2 goals, 2 assists) and Anthony Worner (2, 1) had multi-point showings for Copley (3-1-2) in this SL American Conference win. Amir Spratt scored twice for Kent (1-6).

Walsh Jesuit 2, North Royalton 1

The Warriors stayed ahead of the Bears thanks to second-half goals from Jack Burke and Brady Catanzarite and assists by Carter Madden and Xavier Munro.

Brunswick 10, Firestone 0

Josh Lord (4 goals, 2 assists) and Ryan Horner (2, 3) led the Blue Devils (3-5) in non-league action. The Falcons (0-5) managed just one shot on goal.

Highland 4, Barberton 0

Alex Dobkowski, Jake Dobkowski, Chris Sollenberger and Alex Curtis scored goals for the Hornets (3-2, 2-0) in SL American Conference action.

Hudson 2, Wadsworth 0

The Explorers (4-1-1, 2-0) remained undefeated in SL National Conference play thanks to goals from Tyler Travis, who also had an assist, and Owen Durkee.

Ben Mihalek added a helper. Keepers Kenneth Enos and Barrett Bigham each made a save to keep the Grizzlies (5-1-1, 0-1-1) off the scoresheet.

St. Vincent-St. Mary 5, Padua 0

The Fighting Irish (2-1-2) followed the lead of Diego Pinto (3 goals, 1 assist). J.P. Rybka and Ben Hutchinson also scored in this win over the Bruins, who didn’t have a shot on goal.

Norton 5, Coventry 0

Isaiah Ballard scored twice. Edgar Santillan, Luke Ballard and Jackson Davis added goals for the Panthers in MAC play. Davis added a hat trick of helpers in the victory.

Revere 9, Tallmadge 1

Shay Makkar and Desmond Johnston scored two goals apiece to lead the visiting Minutemen (4-0-0, 2-0-0) in a SLAC match.

Jaden Yankovitz, Ethan Hodgson, AJ Catlett, Jacob Thomas and R Brown also scored a goal for Revere.

Nick DePompei won his 101st match as Revere’s boys soccer coach. DePompei, in his eighth season guiding Revere’s program, recorded win No. 100 in a 2-1 victory at home over Ontario on Saturday.
