Cops and Bobbers ready to reel in youngsters during free fishing days

May 30—A summertime chumming between area law enforcement and children will keep lines reeling during this year's free fishing days.

Each year, representatives with Duncan Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Stephens County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma Wildlife Department and other agencies put on a family fun event, which coincides with free fishing days in Oklahoma.

This year's Cops and Bobbers event, the sixth of its kind in the area, will tackle up their rods from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 4 at Lake Humphrey in Duncan. At 9 a.m., a briefing will take place for the Kids Fishing Tournament.

Awards for the tournament will be given around noon.

The event lets children interact with local cops to "form a positive and everlasting relationship" while also enjoying fishing.

Agencies will have vehicles for children to interact with along with prizes and food for those who attend.

Free fishing days will last over the course of the June 4-5 weekend in Oklahoma. During this weekend, no license or fishing permits are needed, but anglers must "abide by all other state fishing regulations including daily bag limits and size restrictions," according to the Wildlife Department.

This year's sponsors for Cops and Bobbers include Duncan Fraternal Order of Police, Southern Trophy, 5K Branding Co., Murf's Guns, B.M.E. Electronics, Walmart, David Moore, Hunt Motor Company, Bail Bonds by Heidi & Earl, Edgewood's, Dave's Cave, Ellsworth Electric, Varai Health Center, McNair Tire, McCoy's Building Supply, Duncan Builders Supply and Ridley's Butcher Shop.
