Coralville, Ankeny women crowned Miss Iowa and Miss Iowa Teen
Contestants from Coralville and Ankeny were respectively crowned Miss Iowa USA and Miss Iowa Teen USA at pageants Saturday.
Grace Lynn Keller, Miss Johnson County USA, was crowned Miss Iowa USA 2023, and Madeline Erickson, Miss Ankeny Teen USA, was crowned Miss Iowa Teen USA 2023.
The annual competition, held this year at the Staplin Performing Arts Center at Valley High School in West Des Moines, consisted of an evening gown segment, swimwear and activewear, and an interview. Competitors were between 14 and 27 years old and Iowa residents.
During reign, the winners are given opportunities and tools to provide humanitarian efforts promoting positive change, while also developing personal goals and endeavors, according to a news release.
Both Keller and Erickson will now advance and compete at this year's Miss USA and Miss Teen USA national pageants. Keller and Erickson also each received thousands of dollars in prizes and awards.
The woman crowned Miss USA will advance to represent the United States in Miss Universe, which will be televised in more than 130 countries across the world.
