CorePlus and Liberty banks robbed on Tuesday - third and fourth robberies in two weeks

After two bank robberies last week in Norwich, there were another two robberies Tuesday afternoon.

Robberies of the Liberty Bank at 77 Salem Turnpike and the CorePlus Credit Union at 202 Salem Turnpike took place at 3:03 p.m. and 3:21 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Norwich Police Department.

During the Liberty Bank robbery, the suspect entered the bank, demanded the money, and exited thereafter. An undisclosed amount of money was taken, but the stolen money was found in the parking lot. CorePlus was robbed while officers were responding to Liberty Bank. The suspect stole about $500 from CorePlus. It is believed the suspect fled into the woods across the street and changed clothes, the press release states.

The police are looking for a white, possibly Hispanic, man seen dressed in a red shirt, denim shorts, socks and sneakers in the photograph posted to the department’s Facebook page. He was last seen on Salem Turnpike near Briar Lane. Norwich Police stated that there’s no threat to the public at this time. However, the public should not approach the individual and notify police if and when he is seen.

Last week, there were robberies of the Dime Bank at 630 Norwich Ave. and the Chelsea Groton Bank at 444 West Main St. The suspect in those incidents left with an undisclosed amount of money, and was described as a light skinned, tan male.
