Corey Davis insists Jets have improved before Patriots rematch: ‘We’re ready’

After a bye week of rest and relaxation, Corey Davis has another R on his mind: revenge.

The Jets wide receiver is looking forward to Sunday’s rematch with the Patriots. New England handed it to New York at MetLife Stadium in Week 2, picking Zach Wilson off four times in a 25-6 beatdown. Davis contributed just two catches for eight yards that day.

Now Davis, Wilson and the rest of the 1-4 Jets have a chance to even things up with a 2-4 Patriots team that looks weaker than in years past. They’ll have to do so on the road, but Davis is eagerly awaiting the Week 7 contest following Gang Green’s off week.

“It’s definitely another opportunity to show what we’ve been doing and how far we’ve come since the last time we played them,” Davis said. “I think we’re a lot better than what we displayed last time we played these guys.”

Davis leads the Jets with 20 grabs for 302 yards and three scores, but he’s been a non-factor in a few games, including the first Patriots contest. Then again, the Jets offense has struggled as a whole, particularly when it comes to the first half. New York spent the bye diagnosing that specific issue, and Davis is confident results will come.

“We got a lot of things figured out,” he said. “We definitely got some rest. Just coming back and seeing the team’s energy and vibe, it’s way different. We’re fired up and ready to get it going.”

Davis didn’t offer too many particulars, but he did say the Jets needs to cut back on “MEs,” or mental errors. “We shoot ourselves in the foot,” Davis explained.

Plenty of that happened the first time New York and New England met. This time? Well, Davis is expecting a better showing.

“We’re ready. We’re ready,” Davis said, stopping sort of bulletin board material. “I don’t want to say too much… but we’re ready.”
