The Cornerstone of Beaver County offering aid for homeless across Beaver County

As cold temperatures begin to plague communities across Beaver County, local organizations are working together to provide warm shelters for those in need this season.

The Cornerstone of Beaver County has announced it is partnering with local organizations to provide warming shelters throughout the winter for those experiencing homelessness around Beaver County. The shelters will provide relief from extreme cold and wind chills throughout the winter, which can be deadly to those stuck outside.

"Winter is dangerous for people experiencing homelessness. As the temperature drops, living outside in the elements, in cars, in tents, in abandoned buildings, not only becomes harder and more uncomfortable, but it can also result in illness, injury and even death," said TCBC Executive Director Marie Timpano.

Warming centers will be available at the following locations and hours:

  • The Cornerstone of Beaver County (600 Sixth St., Beaver Falls), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Trails Ministry (1217 Seventh Ave., Beaver Falls), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Central United Methodist Church (1227 Sixth Ave., Beaver Falls), Mondays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday through Friday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • New Brighton Municipal Building (610 Third Ave., New Brighton), Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Rochester Free Methodist Church (480 Jefferson St., Rochester), visitors are asked to please call ahead to 724-774-5304 for shelter

In addition to offering warmth, the above locations will also have access to The Cornerstone of Beaver County's basic needs and housing resources for visitors. Further resources can also be found on the organizations website, including aid for groceries and meals, clothing or other necessary assistance.

The Cornerstone of Beaver County is also continuing to gather funds for the construction of their 24/7 men's shelter in Vanport Township. The project was approved for funding by The Community Development Program (CDP) of Beaver County, but further fundraising efforts are required to complete the facility by early 2022.

"We're grateful to have wonderful community partners coming together to help keep those who are homeless out of harm's way this winter," Timpano said. "As we work to obtain the support needed to start construction on our county's long-awaited 24/7 men's emergency shelter, we are hopeful that this will be the last winter without a men's shelter in Beaver County."
